Assemblymember McKinnor, Brotherhood Crusade, Kaiser and Partners Sponsor Backpack Giveaway

Ninety-degree temperatures and a relentless sun couldn’t stop families from lining up for free backpacks and school supplies in Inglewood. Among them was Barry Hargress. He brought his grandkids out early to Crozier Middle School to make sure they picked up everything they needed to be ready on day one.

Community partners included local businesses and nonprofits.

Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway & Health Fair

Annual community event serving families across Inglewood, Hawthorne, and surrounding communities.

  • 1,000+ backpacks and school supplies distributed to students.

  • Free services included:

    • health screenings

    • haircuts and braiding

    • school resources for families.

  • Groundbreaking for 60 units of affordable housing on church land.

  • Partnership with Rev. Victor Cyrus-Franklin (Pastor Vic).

  • Utilizes California’s Faith-Based Affordable Housing laws to expand housing access.

Pastors Brunch – Faith Leadership Coalition

Convened pastors and ministry leaders from across AD-61 at The Proud Bird, Los Angeles

  • Strengthened partnerships between state government and churches addressing:

    • homelessness

Holiday Toy Drives with Local Police

Donated toys and supported holiday toy drives hosted by local police departments

  • Helped ensure gifts for children in families facing economic hardship.

 Hawthorne Senior Center Construction

Secured state funding to support the new Hawthorne Senior Center.

  • Construction currently underway.

  • Facility will provide:

    • senior meals programs

    • health and wellness activities

    • social programming for older adults.

Redtail Crossing Affordable Housing – Westchester

102 units of affordable housing delivered

  • Includes supportive housing for formerly unhoused residents.

  • Named after the Tuskegee Airmen (“Red Tails”).
